A forest feeds itself: no one fertilises it, waters it or sprays it, yet it produces more living material per square metre than any farm field. A food forest copies that architecture with edible species — and it is the heart of the EliteMC farm design.
The seven layers
- 1Canopy — breadfruit, mango, avocado, coconut

Every layer harvests a different level of sunlight. A hectare of layers out-produces a hectare of any single crop — just not in one convenient product, which is why supermarkets prefer monoculture and why member-owned farms don't have to.
Why it works
- Deep tree roots pump water and minerals up; leaf-fall delivers them to the surface as free mulch.
- Permanent canopy shelters soil life, tames wind, and buffers cyclone and drought.
- Diversity means no pest or disease can take the whole system down.
- Once established (3–5 years), a food forest needs radically less labour than annual beds.
Starting one at home — even small
You do not need arpents. One corner of a yard: a papaya and a banana (fast sub-canopy), moringa (shrub), turmeric and brèdes beneath, sweet potato as living mulch, a grenadille up the fence. Plant the tall things first, feed the soil hard for two years, and let the layers fill in.
The farm connection
